I Pledge

Oh my god!!!! I'm filled with disgust at the recent mud slinging matches going on between BJP and UPA and Doordarshan and everybody's uncle over coverage of Amitabh Bachchan's hospital visit. MEDIA COVERAGE OF HIS ILLNESS AND OPERATION. what the fuck????? How can this be a controversy? People, who I'm sure cannot even pronounce, let alone spell his condition (its diverticulitis, in case you are wondering) are fighting over the screen time given to it. While we are at it, why stop here.... lets go the whole nine yards. Let us raise a hue and cry about "how young ladies dress seductively and act sexy and literally force drunken men to rape them and how maharashtrian women will destroy marathi culture and invite lecherous looks if they wear salwar-kameez instead of saris "

Ok... imho.... sari is a seductive attire (more so than salwar-kameez) and boys will be boys..... wrap a beautiful girl from head to toe in cotton wads...and she will invite lecherous looks.

Its things like these that make me livid. Recently on Dr. Ambedkar's death anniversary, groups of people without a ticket, boarded a mumbai bound train to goto some rally, and sexually assaulted a lady in the train. what the hell is this all about?

The point I'm trying to make here is this. Come monday and little children will go to school and in the morning assembly they will raise their right hand and say the student's pledge:
India is my country and all Indians are my brothers and sisters. I love my country and I am proud of its rich and varied heritage. I shall always strive to be worthy of it.
I shall give respect to my parents, teachers and elders and treat everyone with courtesy.
To my country and my people, I pledge my devotion. In their will being and prosperity alone, lies my happiness.

why is it the student's pledge? Are the grownups exempt from following the pledge? As Golu say - Adjust maadi, we are jesht like this only.

Some new musings

Last week was supposed to be fun
We had Diwali and right on its heels came Eid. It was a joyous occasion for all of us, the entire nation ready to get into the festive mood. India was winning cricket matches, last week was supposed to be fun dammit.
Then came the bomb blasts in New Delhi, smack in the middle of all the festivities, in heavily crowded areas of Paharganj and Sarojini nagar. If I had been in Delhi, thats exactly where I'd be hanging out.Talk about being a killjoy. And the targets? Innocent people going about their diwali and eid shopping. That was IT, somehow, something somewhere snapped inside me.
But as we all do, I got over it pretty fast, tragedies like this only make us more stoic, not a good thing at all.
But today I was reading the newspapers and came across this story.
Palestinian boy lives through six Israelis

This is the world we live in, so better late than never, Belated Diwali and Eid greetings to you all.

Break on through to the other side

Been listening to a lot of Doors recently... and the question you want to ask yourself is .. Do you or do you not want to be Jim Morrison. True, the guy was a poet and a good one at that... but is it worth it? Anyways.. too philosophical. I'm happy being shinu, so peace.

(Thats Nishant on the left with yours truly sharing the limelight)

Ah! The good times when we used to play Wish you were here. We both sucked but that didn't deter us from playing. Anyways shine on you crazy diamond.

Other bits and pieces of news...
42nd Convocation of our institute got over and the class of 2004 passed out. It was emotional becoz half my batchmates were there. Good bye and good luck

Also, the placement has started with a bang for Mech-dual batch. Tikna and Pagaria were out of placement market faster than you could utter Consultant.
Mera number kab aayega? As they say every last sonafabitch has his day.. I'll get mine soon :) .

I found out that I had a relative right in my own department. He is the nephew of the daughter-in-law of the younger brother of my grandfather. (Phew) So that makes him a cousin. A nice chap. Straight 10s both sems and a heart of gold.

And last but not the least, the trailer for the Rockumentary for the band FFF can be found here.Trailer

I have a bout of heavyduty cough and have spent all the night in bed coughing like a maniac.. Pray that I get well soon.
